On February 13, 1866, St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara and Rev. Fr. Leopold Beccarro founded the congregation of the Mother of Carmel, the first indigenous women religious congregation in the Syro Malabar Church of India.
The charism of our Congregation is personal sanctity and redemptive uplift of the people of God, especially women and children, through the right blending of contemplation and action. Be holy and lead others to holiness is its essence.
St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the Founder Father of our Congregation, was a brilliant visionary, an actual philanthropist, and a saintly man. The healing ministry had a significant role in the life of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara.
CMC Healing Ministry
CMC first set foot in the apostolate of healing in 1925.
In 1964 our congregation was able to establish own hospital, the Ranigiri hospital Thudanganad,Pala.
The health institutions of CMC in different continents are the rays of that beacon of light which he set ablaze at Kainakary in the field of health care.
